ALERT: New Quantico base access procedures effective immediately

28 Jan 2019 | Lance Cpl. Aarron Smith Marine Corps Base Quantico

Marine Corps base Quantico is now using the Department of Defense’s (DOD) Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS), a single access control system.

DBIDS utilizes local, state and federal records to vet cardholders across all military branches and their installations, better ensuring the safety of information and personnel aboard Quantico.

“It is required by DOD and Marine Corps policy that we screen and vet all persons requesting access onto the installation,” explained Lance Hunziker, the critical infrastructure protection officer for Quantico.

That even includes people who visit base for sports, recreational activities, hobbies or to visit family and friends.

DBIDS has slowly been integrated since September of last year to give people time to adjust and register, said Hunziker.

“If you wish to have access, you must have the approved credentials or you will be denied access to the installation,” he said.

There is no cost to register into DBIDS. People who possess Common Access Card (CAC) and Teslin identification cards, whom are family members of an active duty service member, do not have to register into the system. The system automatically uploads your data after the first time it’s scanned.

Below are the types of cardholders who are still required to register into the system:

- Foreign nationals, even if they possess a CAC.
- Federal Personal Identity Verification (FED PIV)
- Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
- Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)

Other people who need to register include: eligible vendors, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, regular visitors and service providers with DOD sponsorship and approval to conduct business.

If you think you may – or know someone who may – fall under the listed categories above, or would like to pre-register into DBIDS, please visit https://www.quantico.marines.mil/Base-Access/ for more information. For assistance, please email Quantico_DBIDS@usmc.mil or call 703-784-4423.
