The season opener for intramural softball on Marine Corps Base Quantico was held June 17, 2013, at Field of Dreams 1 and 2.

The American League, which has 12 teams, opened the season and will continue to play every Monday and Wednesday, weather permitting, through to the playoffs, which are scheduled for September, said Robert Anderson, intramural sports director.

Games are scheduled for 6, 7 and 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, meaning all 24 teams throughout both leagues play twice a week.

The playoffs will pit four teams from the American League up against four teams from the National League, which plays every Tuesday and Thursday, weather permitting, said Anderson.

This year, the American League is comprised of: OCS, LSG, TBS, M&RA, AFOSI, Base MT, MCSC, MI, HMX-1, LSSS, CI AIB and MCESG.

The National League is comprised of: MCIA, HQMC, MCOSC, MCAF, H&S Finance, MCRC, Training Command, TECOM, NHCQ, EIP, Combat Camera and H&S G-6.

Each team has a minimum of nine players, but most have 15-20, said Anderson.

The playoffs will span five days and in a round robin format.

During one of the two simultaneously played 6 p.m. games, the Officer Candidates School team, the Extra Hitters, and last year’s champions, played against the Legal Services Support Section, the Shysters.

"It was good," said Brennan Kriner, left center for the Extra Hitters. "We have some new players. We'll see if we can continue and win the championship like last year.”

"We practice as much as we can," said Kriner. "But with candidates on deck, there isn't a whole lot of time."

The scores for the six games held June 17 were: HMX-1 16, LSG 3; OCS 18, LSSS 3; MCESG 22, Base MT 1; TBS 20, MCSC 12; MISFITS 14, CI AIB 12; M&RA 20, AFOSI 13.
