WWII ‘Forgotten Battalion’ comes to Quantico for their last reunion

Arnold Meads, 96, has carried a suitcase of memorabilia from his years of service in the “Forgotten Battalion,” of the 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment and the 2nd 155mm Howitzer Battalion. Meads and four other members of the battalion—Mike Arrand, Rolland “Pat” Patrick, Jim Lieberknecht and Earl Lance—held what will most likely be their final reunion aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico Aug. 25-29.

A small, silver lining when mired in traffic on Interstate 95 northbound is catching a glimpse of the massive construction project on-going behind the National Museum of the Marine Corps. The project is more than an addition. It is the completion of the plan for the museum that was in place even before it opened to the public in 2006.

WWII U.S. Marine Raider sculpture comes to NMMC

A Marine Corps story that was born more than 70 years ago during World War II now reaches its final chapter at Marine Corps Base Quantico. A life-like bronze statue, “Soul of the Forward and Faithful,” honors the U.S. Marine Raiders and will be donated to the National Museum of the Marine Corps on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The sculpture first went on display this past summer in Tacoma, Washington, and most recently at the San Diego Air & Space Museum in California, and will now rest among the many exhibits telling 239 years of Marine Corps history at the NMMC.
