Anyone can come, but bring cookies

27 Nov 2013 | Mike DiCicco Marine Corps Base Quantico

Like last week’s Thanksgiving dinner at the Barber Physical Activity Center, Headquarters and Service Battalion’s cookie bakeoff  next week will be open to any Marines and family members interested.

“This is open to anybody who would like to come, but we ask that they bring cookies,” said Jennifer Douglas, the battalion’s family readiness officer. “Again, we’re really targeting those single Marines.”

The event will be at 11:30 a.m. December 6 in the battalion classroom, Building 2006.  The company gunnery sergeants will judge the contest, and first- through third-place prizes will be awarded for the best cookies. Hot apple cider and hot chocolate will be provided.

Anyone interested should register by the day before by emailing Douglas  at jennifer.douglas@usmc.mil or the battalion’s Family Readiness Volunteer Program at theheartofthebeast@gmail.com.

Before the bakeoff, beginning at 10 a.m., a quartet from the Quantico Marine Corps Band will perform while anyone who is interested decorates the battalion Christmas tree on the building’s quarterdeck.

Douglas said she especially hopes to bring in H&S Bn. Marines stationed elsewhere on the base, but anyone is welcome.

“It’s more for fellowship than anything,” she said. “We do this to keep everybody a community — Quantico as a whole.”
