Maj. Christopher Smith, operations officer, Headquarters and Service Battalion, provides instruction to his spouse, Jennifer Smith, on the use of the M-16 rifle before heading to the range for the live fire exercise during John/Jane Wayne Day June 24. Spouses of Marines had the opportunity to experience the Indoor Simulator Marksman Trainer (ISMT) and Virtual Combat Convoy Trainer (VCCT); live fire with the M249 SAW, M16A4 and M9 pistol; and a static display with Light Armored Vehicles (LAV) and weapons. Events like John/Jane Wayne Day provide an excellent opportunity for commands to improve their overall unit readiness by enhancing family readiness as it is vital to have the support of the families.
