MCBQ 2015 MEMORIAL DAY GUIDANCE AND SAFETY MESSAGE

22 May 2015 | Col. Allen D. Broughton Marine Corps Base Quantico

On 25 May 2015 we will observe a day of remembrance to honor those men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving in our Armed Forces.  Originally known as Decoration Day to honor those lost in the American Civil War, Memorial Day is now celebrated in communities across our great country to honor the service members who have died to support and defend our freedom.  I encourage all of you to set aside some time and take part in one of these ceremonies that honor our fallen heroes.  Locally, Marine Corps Base Quantico and the Potomac Region Veterans Council will host a Memorial Day ceremony at the Quantico National Cemetery starting at 1100 on 25 May 2015

This holiday weekend also marks the beginning of the 101 days of summer.  During this period, personnel aboard MCBQ will have an opportunity to take advantage of the warm weather and gather with family and friends.  While partaking in all of this summer’s fun activities, we must do so with safety on our minds.

I expect leaders at all levels to conduct thorough pre-holiday safety briefings to ensure we are spearheading the campaign against mishaps.  As always, our achievable goal is no accidents or incidents, no acts of misconduct, and no loss of life.  I trust each and one of you will take care of one another and ensure every Marine and civilian Marine remains in the fight.

On long weekends such as this, as family and friends enjoys themselves, the consumption of alcohol is a contributing factor in physical altercations, automobile, and motorcycle accidents.  Please drink responsibly.

Your hard work and support to the Marine Corps mission, our Marines, civilians, and their families are appreciated.  Be safe and have a great Memorial Day - Semper Fidelis.
