Marine Corps Base Quantico -- The Quantico Middle/High School boys soccer team is getting ready to take the field for the 2014 spring season. The team is welcoming many new faces this year and is looking forward to a successful season.
The team only has a few people on the team who played for the school last season. Howard and Thomas, two senior veterans and co-captains for the team, have played Warriors Soccer for the past three years.
“I’ve been here for awhile,” said Howard, “and we’ve been good in the past but, for me, I just love playing soccer.”
“My first time to play soccer ever was my sophomore year,” said Thomas, “This year we have a lot of potential, but it’s really just fun to go out there and play with your teammates.”
“Hopefully our veterans can help our new guys out this year,” said Robert Hume, the head coach for the soccer team. “Every year we almost have to start from scratch because you have kids moving away with their parents who are being moved to another base on top of the seniors who graduate. But it’s all about having fun and playing the game.”
The team doesn’t play in an official high school conference but plays in a recreational league. All home games are played at Butler Stadium. The schedule should be announced this week. But Hume says it’s not about who they play that really matters.
“My goal is to inspire a love of the game in the players and, hopefully, get them to have a little fun in the process.”
