Photo Information Quantico Fire Department and Emergency Rescue Services responded to a fire crawling through the woods in Training Area 11 on the west side of Marine Corps Base Quantico on April 9, 2013. The affected area was too large to extinguish outright so emergency responders limited the spread of the fire by bulldozing a "no burn" zone around it. After the zone had been crafted, firefighters fought fire with fire by "back-burning", a controlled burn designed to rob the fire of fuel so it can be managed safely.
