Biography

Colonel Joseph M. Murray

 

Colonel Joseph M. Murray is the Commander, Marine Corps Installations National Capital Region – Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.  In this role, Colonel Murray administers command and control of assigned organizations and provides installation support to tenant command, military and civilian personnel and families.  Additionally, he provides installation management functional support to Marine Corps activities and organizations with the National Capital Region (NCR).

 

Born in Washington, DC, Colonel Murray graduated from Gonzaga College High School and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 1990 after graduating from Ohio Wesleyan University.

 

Colonel Murray’s operational assignments have included tours in 2nd Marine Division Camp Lejeune, North Carolina with 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st BN 2nd Marines, and 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.  He also served as the Deputy G-3, 2nd Marine Logistics Group and commanded 2nd Supply Battalion during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF 9.1)

 

Colonel Murray’s overseas assignments have included tours with 3rd Force Service Support Group in Okinawa, Japan, Operations Officer for Landing Force Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training, Logistics Planner International Security Assistance Force (ISAF, CJ-5) and as the Director of Logistics, J-4, United States Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A).

 

Colonel Murray’s training and supporting establishment tours have been The Basic School, Quantico, Virginia,  Headquarters Marine Corps, Plans Policy & Operations (PP&O) Current Operations (POC), and on the Joint Staff in the J-5 Directorate’s Pakistan Afghanistan Coordination Cell, as the Mission Support Division Chief.

 

Colonel Murray is a graduate of The Basic School, Supply School, Amphibious Warfare School, Command and Staff College, and The Marine Corps War College.
