Plan to build new, larger west side firehouse a step closer

Long-awaited plans for a new fire station and intersection improvements at MCB1 and Hot Patch Road on the west side of the base, where the Fire Station 533 is currently located, have reached a new milestone: An environmental assessment is currently under review, and the project has gone through cost certification for the FY2017 budget. According to Richard A. Reisch, head of the Asset Management Section in Public Works Branch, final funding approval has not yet been given for the project, however, so work has not yet begun. Reisch estimated that work is unlikely to actually begin until the summer of 2018 at the earliest, assuming the project is approved for the FY2017 budget.

Quantico Income Tax Center to open for business

Tax season is here, and the Quantico Income Tax Center will soon be up and ready to provide any assistance to service members, dependents and retirees in need. The center is tentatively scheduled to open Jan. 28, with walk-in services available until April 15. Services for those filing after April 15 will be by appointment only. All returns will be prepared on a first-come, first-served basis, although active duty personnel in uniform will receive priority during normal business hours.

NHCQ changes non-formulary medication process

The National Capital Region announced changes to its non-formulary medication process as of Jan. 1. The Naval Health Center Quantico maintains a list of medications that is referred to as the “Quantico Formulary.” These pharmaceuticals are available to all eligible beneficiaries irrespective of their category or status. All formulary drugs will be dispensed as generics unless unavailable. Quantity restrictions apply to all prescriptions and refills are not authorized for controlled substances. The medications listed on the Formulary were determined appropriate by the Department of Defense Pharmaco-Economic Center, and approved by the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs and Naval Health Clinic Quantico’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
