Tax season is here, and the Quantico Income Tax Center will soon be up and ready to provide any assistance to service members, dependents and retirees in need.

The center is tentatively scheduled to open Jan. 28, with walk-in services available until April 15. Services for those filing after April 15 will be by appointment only. All returns will be prepared on a first-come, first-served basis, although active duty personnel in uniform will receive priority during normal business hours.

The Quantico Tax Center is not the only option, however, for those in need of assistance in filing their taxes. Military OneSource is working in conjunction with H&R Block and the Department of Defense to offer free tax consultation and on-line preparation to service members, reservists, survivors and separated service members until 180 days after their retirement. H&R Block has set up a trailer in the Exchange parking lot.

All the Marines providing the services at the Quantico Tax Center have been educated and trained in tax law and are certified by the IRS to prepare most returns.

Those seeking their help are asked to go to the Marine Corps Base Quantico website and fill out the Pre-Filing Checklist and the Client Intake Form, as well as to be sure to bring all required documents with them.

For information, call 703-784-3976. Outside of tax season, the Legal Assistance Office can be contacted at either 703-784-3126 or 703-784-3127 to assist with tax questions.

The Tax Center is located in the rear of the Legal Assistance building at 3095 Roan Street, Quantico. Follow the signs and enter through the rear door facing the railroad tracks.

The Tax Center cannot be accessed through the Legal Assistance Office main entrance. A Satellite Tax Center will also be on the Westside on Feb, 3. Building 24009 (Cox Hall) on the first Deck (Room 102) at Camp Barrett.

The Satellite Tax Center will only be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays and cannot handle complete tax returns.

Those with rental income, losses or any other complex tax issues are advised to seek the services of the Mainside Tax Center.
