This is a portion of the stone wall that Confederate troops used as a shield from Union fire Dec. 13, 1862 during the Battle of Fredericksburg. The stone wall worked well, as only 300 Confederate troops were hit by enemy fire, compared to 8,000 on the Union side. Parts of the stone wall were rebuilt in the 1930s and in 2004. - This is a portion of the stone wall that Confederate troops used as a shield from Union fire Dec. 13, 1862 during the Battle of Fredericksburg.
