Retired U.S. Marine Corps Col. Frank Harris III, right, cuts the cake with Col. Jenny Colegate, base commander of Marine Corps Base Quantico, during the Marine Corps cake cutting ceremony in honor of the 249th Marine Corps birthday on MCBQ, Virginia, Nov. 7, 2024. The ceremony honors the oldest and youngest Marine in attendance, representing the passing of tradition between generations of Marines; Harris is the oldest Marine who is currently 100 years old. The annual celebration is a long-standing tradition which celebrates the establishment of the United States Marine Corps on Nov. 10, 1775 and honors the service and sacrifice of all Marines, past and present.
