A U.S. Marine with the Marine Corps Base Quantico Color Guard, prepares the flag for morning colors on MCB Quantico. Virginia, Sept. 11, 2024. Each day at sun rise and sundown, service members raise and lower the national colors in honor of those who served the United States; however, on this day each year, U.S. flags around the nation are hoisted at half-mast in remembrance of the infamous terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania in 2001.
