Jeff Boelman, head of Naval Health Clinic Quantico’s Facilities Department and the mainside clinic’s energy conservation officer, shows the building’s two massive air chillers on Friday. By shutting down most of the building’s climate control on weekends, including nine of the 11 air handlers and one of the chillers, while reducing the other chiller to 30 percent power, the facility was able to reduce its weekend energy consumption by more than 30 percent during the Power-Down Weekend pilot last summer. The clinic continues to save energy by reducing climate control on weekends.
