Runners who enjoy participating in 10K and 5K distances can be part of the celebrated Marine Corps Historic Half Weekend by registering for the Historic 10K, or the Semper Fred 5K. Registration opened Wednesday at www.marinemarathon.com. All events will be hosted by the U.S. Marines in the historic City of Fredericksburg May 17.

Both the Historic 10K presented by Navy Federal and Semper Fred 5K encompass a portion the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon course, including the event’s mighty climb up Hospital Hill, an exhilarating 200-foot incline incorporated into each event.

The popularity of the Historic 10K and Semper Fred 5K has only grown each year as both events have sold out the past two years.

"The City of Fredericksburg’s avid running community, enthusiastic residents and volunteers, make it an ideal destination for any runner," says MCM Director Rick Nealis.

Runners registering for Historic Half events will receive an official bib embedded with timing device, technical T-shirt, event program, runner tracking service and an impressive, artfully-designed finisher medal, presented by a U.S. Marine. Registration is $45 for the Historic 10K and $35 for the Semper Fred 5K.

Both the Historic 10K and Semper Fred 5K start in separate locations but finish in conjunction with the Historic Half in Fredericksburg’s Central Park. The Historic 10K will start at the intersection of Fall Hill and Virginia Avenues. Semper Fred 5K runners will start their 3.1-mile run on Route 1/Jefferson Davis Highway and Fall Hill Avenue, adjacent to the Fredericksburg Shopping Center. All Historic Half running events begin at 7 a.m.

Runners age eight and above can register for the Historic 10K, while the Semper Fred 5K is open to all ages.

During Historic Half Weekend, Historic 10K and Semper Fred 5K runners also will enjoy attending the two-day Healthy Lifestyle Expo at the Fredericksburg Expo & Conference Center where they will pick up their official bib, event-day materials and see the latest in fitness apparel and gear. The Expo will open free of charge to the public on May 15 and throughout the day May 16.

The Marine Corps Historic Half marathon is currently open for registration at www.marinemarathon.com.
