Summer Concert Series showcases military bands

National Museum of the Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation will host its sixth annual summer concert series beginning in early August.

On the evening of the concerts, the National Museum of the Marine Corps will remain open until the concert starts, giving those with a nine-to-five work schedule additional opportunities to tour the museum. Admission into the museum is free.

“It’s an opportunity to get involved with the community,” said Marketing and Events Manager Sarah Maguire, with the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation.

The summer concert series is a community-building event. It’s a chance for the public to take part in military centered activities and for the museum to give back to the public.

The United States Army Guard Fife & Drum Corps and the U.S. Army Drill Team will perform August 6, the Quantico Marine Corps Band will be performing August 20 and the United States Navy Band Sea Chanters will perform August 27.

“[It’s] an opportunity to reach out to the public off base and do community relations to give free music to the public,” said Gunnery Sgt. Kristofer Hutsell, enlisted conductor for the band. “It’s a good opportunity to show who our marines are.”

The music played by the Quantico Marine Corps band will feature genres that are a mixture of popular tunes, traditional folk song arrangements and classic patriotic songs.

Concert admission and parking is free of charge and will be held outside in front of the museum. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to provide a more comfortable memory-making experience.
