Scholarship opportunities

The following are scholarship opportunities for family members of active duty service members. Note that some application deadlines are close.

National Military Family Association Scholarship for Spouses active duty, guard, reserve, and retired service members, as well as surviving spouses with a valid military ID. Spouses who are service members themselves are generally not eligible to apply, but we may permit exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Scholarships and other awards range from $500 to $2,500, depending on the type of program you are pursuing and the funding we have available. You may apply each year, even if you have been awarded in a previous year. Applications are open through Jan. 31. National Military Family Association has teamed up with GEICO and nine universities: George Washington University, University of North Carolina, Central Texas College, Western Governors University, Syracuse University, Simmons College, American University, Georgetown University and University of Southern California, to offer scholarship opportunities for spouses. The 2015 Scholarships for Military Children Program operated by the Defense Commissary Agency is open. Submit your application to your commissary no later than Feb. 13. A minimum of one $2,000 scholarship will be awarded at every commissary location where qualified applications are received. More than one scholarship per commissary may be available based on response and funding. The scholarship provides for payment of tuition, books, lab fees and other related expenses. Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation applicants must be the child of one of the following: Active duty or reserve U.S. Marine Veteran U.S. Marine who has received an honorable discharge, or who was killed while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps .Active duty or reserve U.S. Navy Corpsman who is serving, or has served, with a U.S. Marine unit .Veteran U.S. Navy Corpsman who served with a U.S. Marine unit and has received an honorable discharge, or was killed while serving in the U.S. Navy as a Corpsman attached to a Marine unit. Have a GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. Have a family adjusted gross income for the 2014 tax year that does not exceed $94,000. Non-taxable allowances are not included in determining adjusted gross income .Planning to attend an accredited undergraduate college or career training school in the upcoming academic year.
