The Quantico Middle/High School Warriors Varsity Football Team had their hands full during their first home game against the Fredericksburg Christian School Eagles at Butler Stadium aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico on Sept. 5, 2013.

The Warriors were pumped up coming off a 23 – 12 win against the Massanutten Military Academy Colonels the previous week; the first win for the Warriors since Oct. 29, 2010. Unfortunately for them, the Eagles had other plans and won the game, 41 – 0.

The Eagles took charge right out of the gate, scoring the first touchdown on their first possession. The Warriors attempted to follow suit but each time they would gain a yard the Eagles would push them back two. This went on most of the first half and by the end of the half the Eagles had a commanding lead, 41-0.

“They need to stay positive,” said John Tagliabue, former Quarterback for the Warriors. “They have improved since last year, but this is just showing them they still have some chinks in their armor they need to tend to during practice. In the end, the experience they are getting now will be very valuable later.”

The Warriors’ defense had enough of the onslaught in the second half and the Eagles’ offense didn’t get close to the end zone.  Meanwhile on offense, the Warriors were still unable to get things going in their favor. By the end of the game, neither team was able to find the end zone in the second half.

“We fought a tough team tonight,” said Mike Green, Warriors’ head coach. “We have to look at the positives in games like theses and we did have positives. Many of our players stepped up and did a great job. They fought to the very end and never gave up.”

The Warriors will head to Newport News, Va., for their next game against the Hampton Roads Academy Navigators on Sept. 13, 2013 For the Warriors’ full schedule, visit: http://goo.gl/DWwdv3.
