Sergeant Major, MCB Quantico
Sergeant Major Liam D. Williams

Sergeant Major Williams was born in Oakland, California. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 29 December 1997 and reported to recruit training at MCRD, San Diego.

Throughout his career, Sergeant Major Williams has been assigned as a Marine Anti-Tank Missileman and Operations Non-Commissioned Officer with 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines;  Operations Non-Commissioned Officer and Executive Branch Chief with Marine Forces Pacific, G-3; Platoon Sergeant with 1st Battalion, 9th Marines; Mobile Training Team Instructor with the Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group; Detachment Commander with Marine Corps Embassy Security Group; Company Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant with 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant with Combat Logistics Battalion 451, Motor Transport Company; Company First Sergeant with III MEF Support Battalion; Squadron Sergeant Major with VMM-265; and Command Senior Enlisted Leader for 1st Marine Raider Support Battalion. He currently serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader of Marine Corps Installations National Capital Region- Marine Corps Base, Quantico.

He deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) in 1999; Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) from 2004 to 2005 during Operation Iraqi Freedom; 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines from 2006-2007 during Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan); Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 9th Marine, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) in 2010; 1st Battalion, 9th Marines during Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) in 2011; Marine Corps Security Cooperation Group (Republic of Georgia) in 2012; the United States Marine Corps Embassy Security Group in Luanda, Angola from 2012-2014 and in Karachi, Pakistan from 2014-2015; 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, Marine Rotational Force- Darwin, Australia in 2017; and VMM-265 (2023 Fred McCorkle Award – MCAA Tiltrotor Squadron of the Year), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) in 2023.

Sergeant Major Williams' personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award (two with combat distinguishing device), the Department of State Meritorious Honor Award, and the Combat Action Ribbon with one gold star in lieu of second award.
