Biography

SgtMaj Denise M. Ruiz
Sergeant Major Denise Ruiz is currently assigned as the Marine Corps Information Operations Command Sergeant Major.

She enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and reported to the Recruit Depot at Parris Island. SgtMaj Ruiz is a graduate of the Basic Food Service School.

Her assignments include: Headquarters Battalion, Tustin, California; the Combat Service Support Detachment in Japan as the Headquarters training Staff Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge for training exercises with the Helicopter Support Team, as well as trained with the Military Police Special Response Team and the Search and Rescue Team; Weapons and Field Training Battalion, two tours with 1st Marine Division; the Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific; Combat Logistics Battalion 2, Combat Logistics Regiment (CLR) 25, Camp Lejeune; 14th Marine Regiment, Fort Worth, Texas; Support Company, CLR-27, Camp Lejeune; 1st Maintenance Battalion, Camp Pendleton; Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group; Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 268 (HMM-268), Marine Aviation Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Camp Pendleton, California which later became part of Marine Aviation Group 16 (HMM-268), then Marine Medium Tilt Rotor Squadron 268 (VMM-268) at Miramar Air Station, Miramar, California; Aviation Combat Element for the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Central Command Crisis Response Unit; Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 16, Marine Aviation Group 16, San Diego, California; and the Support Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment.

SgtMaj Ruiz served in a variety of positions to include Swim Instructor; Basic Life Saving Instructor Trainer; Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor where she graduated 13 platoons; and served in a number of Gunnery Sergeant, 1st Sergeant and Sergeant Major positions.

Other accomplishments include selection as Military Female of the Year for 2003 and her selection to participate in a pilot program as a Drill Instructor intended to implement females into the West Coast Recruit Depot.

Her training includes: the Drill Instructor course and the Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival Course graduating with Honors; and the Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival Course.
