With temperatures in the low 70s and clear, sunny skies, Saturday was the perfect day for the Potomac River Festival, which was organized by the Quantico Yacht Club, town of Quantico and Marine Corps Base Quantico. The commodore of the club, Charles Hazard, said he hopes to make it an annual event.

Approximately 100 base and town residents took part in the festivities, which included a kayak relay race benefitting wounded warriors, free boat inspections from the Coast Guard Auxiliary, a bouncy house and fire trucks for children to explore and an assortment of vendors and charitable organizations with table displays.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland, sent one of its patrol boats staffed with two officers and a paramedic to provide support to the event. Fortunately, the event ran smoothly, and no one was injured or fell into the water.

Seven teams competed in the three-lap kayak relay, and Kevin Brown, Ron Neumann and Nathan Brown from the Quantico Trading Post team took home the first-place trophy. The full value of the registration fee for the race went to the Semper Fi Fund.
