MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. -- The Town Of Quantico’s Father’s Day Flotilla event held at the town’s Municipal Park on Saturday went better than expected according to Kevin Brown, mayor of the Town of Quantico, as many town and Marine Corps Base Quantico residents participated in the event. There were more than 20 participants all laughing and enjoying each other’s company, and relaxing and basking in the calm waters of the Potomac River.
Before everyone hit the water, there was an in-depth safety brief, making sure people knew the possible dangers when in the waters, especially with young children. After the brief, everyone was ready to get their feet wet. Most went on the supervised tour that lead the kayakers up the river. Yet a few found it better to stay closer to shore and relax with their spouse or children.
Fifteen boats were available for the residents and, within in just one hour, all the boats were being used and many participants brought their own.
Brown is planning to have other water events for the town such as a fishing tournament, more guided tours along the shores of Quantico and even kayak and canoe classes along the river.
“I wanted to get folks out here on the weekend to enjoy the new park,” Brown said. “We will continue our efforts to have special events and publicize that the town is here and that there is plenty to do and enjoy. If anyone wants to find out more about future events here, they can visit our Facebook page or the base Facebook page.”
