Marine Corps Community Services Quantico hosted its annual Volunteer Appreciation Ceremony recognizing 45 volunteers at The Clubs at Quantico, Virginia, April 22.

“The ceremony made me feel valued for the things I do,” said Cpl. Bernardo Guzman, an Administrative Specialist for G-1 and a USO volunteer. "It makes me feel seen for putting in an effort and giving back.”

In 2025, Quantico volunteers collectively contributed more than 19,000 hours of service, and each of those who came to the ceremony received a Certificate of Appreciation. The total hours reflects services across multiple volunteer organizations including military and family support, youth mentorship, conservation efforts, animal rescue and more.

“By getting involved, people build positive connections with others,” said Barbara Hawkins, an installation volunteer coordinator with MCCS. “By building those social connections, they can also build their self-esteem and confidence.”

Col. Jenny Colegate, the commanding officer of MCB Quantico, emphasized the intrinsic rewards volunteerism provides to those who serve the community.

“The reward you feel on the inside—seeing the tangible change that comes from your actions—is truly worth it,” she said. “I hope you all continue to push that motivation to volunteer and show others that while we don't always have the time, we make the sacrifice because the renewed sense of service is invaluable.”

Eligibility for the program is governed by Marine Corps Order 5380.2, which allows Marines, civilian Marines and family members ages 13 and older to participate, for more information on the eligibility, please visit: https://www.marines.mil/News/Publications/MCPEL/Electronic-Library-Display/Article/900493/mco-53802/.
