U.S. Marine Corps Col. Michael L. Brooks, the outgoing commanding officer of Marine Corps Base Quantico, center, receives the colors during a change of command ceremony on MCBQ Virginia, July 2, 2024. The passing of the colors is a tradition that signifies the transferring of responsibilities from the outgoing commanding officer to the oncoming. Col. Jenny Colegate relieved Brooks after serving as MCBQ as its commander for almost three years. “I refer to Marine Corps Base Quantico as a village, and I do that on purpose,” Brooks said. “It’s not all about the capabilities, but those [people in Quantico] who involve themselves; they insert themselves in to what needs to be done in support of the village.” (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
