Beans, bullets and Band-Aids are the hallmarks of supply, and Supply Platoon at The Basic School, where Marine officers are forged, stands as an example of how a seldom seen process can have big effects.

“We order the fuel, the trucks, the ammunition and the weapons,” said Sgt. Abdul Coronado, a supply administration and operations clerk with Supply Platoon, Headquarters and Service Company, Instructor Battalion, The Basic School. “We account for everything an officer carries or uses, from M16s to night-vision goggles.”

The beans - food in the form of meals ready to eat [MREs] - are routed through supply to be distributed to hungry Marines in the field.

“It’s three MREs a day per officer, 330 officers per company and that’s a lot to account for,” Coronado said.

The bullets - the weapons and ammunition used for training - are tracked by supply. Every round used on every rifle range, every MOUT exercise and every training evolution is accounted for monthly.

The final element of supply’s mission- the Band-Aids- is the medical equipment that corpsmen use to treat injuries in the field.

According to Coronado, without supply’s three B’s, TBS’ mission to train and support the lieutenants could grind to a halt.

“If we’re not here, the lieutenants do not get trained. It’s as simple as that,” said Gunnery Sgt. Rebekka Spanglerloch, supply chief for the platoon.

Spanglerloch’s small unit handles their big mission with little hassle. She attributes their ability to accomplish their mission to simply being Marines.

“It’s a mindset,” Spanglerloch said. “Mission accomplishment is what Marines are trained to do.”

With Supply Platoon on the job, the three B’s will keep TBS running as smoothly as it always has.
