Men’s and women’s groups hosted by H&S Bn. are open to all March 10, 2016 — Every Wednesday from about 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m, men and women gather in the Headquarters and Service Battalion classroom, conference room, or chaplain’s office for conversation, activities and lunch. The men’s group and women’s group are open to all ranks, both officer and enlisted personnel, as well as civilian employees, said Cmdr. Abuhena Saifulislam, the H&S Bn. chaplain. MORE

Museum hoists dive bomber into place March 8, 2016 — Nearly 73 years after crashing into Lake Michigan, an SBD-3 Dauntless dive bomber is soaring once again, this time over Leatherneck Gallery at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. An installation team carefully hoisted the aircraft inch by inch until it was positioned in a dramatic 40-degree dive angle with dive flaps open and a replica 1,000 pound bomb suspended underneath looming over the Museum’s central gallery. Marine Corps Base Quantico conducts full-scale active shooter drill March 4, 2016 — According to a study of active shooter incidents released by the FBI in 2014, there have been 160 active shooter incidents between 2000 and 2013. This is an average of 11.4 annually with an increasing trend during those years. Sixteen—or 10 percent—of the incidents took place on government property. MORE

Marine Reservist, PWC police officer gunned down in the prime of her life March 3, 2016 — Prince William County Police Officer Ashley M. Guindon was only 29 when she was gunned down in Woodbridge Saturday night as she and two other officers responded to a domestic dispute call. MORE

Harvard Marine and Disney artist team up for children’s book March 3, 2016 — An attack helicopter pilot and a cartoon illustrator...not exactly who you might imagine as business partners. Although at first this seems like an unlikely partnership, Maj. David R. Dixon and artist Phil Jones recently published their first book together, Goodnight Marines, and it has already been nominated for the 2016 James Webb Award for Distinguished Fiction from the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation.
