Veteran’s day events, remembrances

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free,” said Ronald Reagan. Below are several opportunities to stop and remember those who have served the cause of Freedom.

The National Veterans Day Observance: is held each year at Arlington National Cemetery. All events are free and open to the public. A prelude concert will begin in the Memorial Amphitheater at 10:30 a.m. A wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at 11 a.m. and will be followed by an observance program in the amphitheater. Quantico National Cemetery Veteran’s Day Observance: Potomac Regional Veterans Council will host a ceremony to honor all veterans at the Quantico National Cemetery. The Ceremony begins at 11 a.m. and will feature the Quantico Marine Corps Band and from the commander of Marine Corps Base Quantico.

Mount Vernon Salutes Veterans: In honor of our nation’s veterans, Mount Vernon admits FREE all active duty, former, or retired military personnel on Veterans Day. At 11 a.m. there will be a performance by the Harmony Heritage Singers in the Robert H. & Clarice Smith Auditorium. At 2 p.m. the Sons of the American Revolution & Daughters of the American Revolution ceremony at the tomb of George Washington and at 3 p.m. there will be a performance by the United States Air Force String Orchestra in the Robert H. & Clarice Smith Auditorium
