The Headquarters and Service Bn. intramural basketball team took on the H&S Bn. Finance Section team during the Quantico Intramural Basketball League Championship Game on April 17, 2014, at the Barber Physical Activity Center. The game was close from tipoff, but the Finance team pulled away in the end to win 65-56.

Finance managed to stay ahead of H&S Bn. the whole game, but the score was never more than 10 points apart. In the second half, the score came down to a one-point difference with Finance in the lead. They regrouped and scored three quick baskets to pull away a little bit.

The closing minutes of the game solidified the Finance victory when they led by 9 and the H&S Bn. team couldn’t rally back. The game ended with Finance in the lead, making them the 2014 league champions.

“The whole game we just stayed true to our game plan and didn’t let up for a second,” said Richard Pollock, a player for Finance. “We hadn’t lost a game in the playoffs yet, so we didn’t want to start now.”

As champions, Finance is looking forward to next year to continue this season’s success.

“We don’t have a choice but to carry on our record,” said Pollock. “As long as everybody stays in shape and stays on their game, we could keep the championship title with us next year.”

With the season over, next year is also a chance for more teams to participate and make the program bigger.

“Next year we hope we can have a bigger turn out,” said Robert Anderson, the intramural sports director. “We always want bigger numbers for the teams and the bigger the crowds, the more fun the games are.”
