MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. -- Not only does April showers bring May flowers, but they also help fill the Quantico 50M Pool, which is scheduled to open May 24, for all service members, family members, military retirees and DOD civilians.
Patrons will be able to use the pool until Sept. 15, without enduring price-increases or other changes compared to last year.
“Our prices are lower [than pools off base] and we have a better facility [than many places],” said Joey Miranda, community recreation program manager. “The pool is family-friendly and it’s a great military environment.”
After a remodeling project last year, Miranda said the pool feels like an almost brand new place.
We put in new diving boards, umbrellas, pool liner, gutter system, locker rooms and pool deck last year, said Miranda.
The pool will be available for open swim daily, on Mondays-Fridays from 3- 6 p.m., Saturdays and holidays from noon- 6 p.m. and Sundays from 1- 6 p.m., with rates ranging from daily fees of a few dollars to season passes that vary from $70-$150. Swim lessons will also be offered this year.
No cost lap swim will be open for unit physical training from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., starting on May 24, and adding sessions from 5:30-7:30 a.m., starting mid-June when the water warms.
Miranda also said a new hour-long program called Aquatic Maximum Power Intensity Training, an aquatic version of the High Intensity Tactical Training Program, will be offered during the lap swim times. An AMP-IT schedule is still being developed.
