The Quantico Middle/High School girls soccer team beat the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon Academy from Ashland on March 27, 2014, at Butler Stadium. The game was close, with Quantico coming out on top 1-0.

The first half of the game was a battle in which neither side was able to push through their opponent. Both teams did their best, but the shots they did take were wild attempts that ended up wide of the goal, and the first half ended in a scoreless tie.

During the second half, both teams demonstrated endurance and pushed just as hard as they did in the first half. Overall, Quantico kept possession of the ball and never let the Yellow Jackets take the ball too far into dangerous territory.

With about 10 minutes left in the game and the scoreboard still empty, Quantico made a push for the goal, fighting for an open shot. In all the effort, Emily, a senior striker for the Lady Warriors, found the ball and an open shot about 30 yards from the goal.

She kicked the ball hard and it hit the back of the net for the only score of the game. The team celebrated for a short moment before moving back into position to continue the game.

When the final whistle blew to end the match, Quantico was up 1-0.

After the teams shook hands, Ken Woodie, the Lady Warriors’ head coach, gathered them together.

“I’ve been here for 15 years,” he said, “and that’s the first time we’ve beaten Randolph-Macon since I got here.”

The team played hard throughout the game, which was something Woodie was happy about.

“We defended well today,” said Woodie. “We stayed in our positions which helped keep space between our players and opened up passing lanes. Overall we pushed hard and were rewarded with a good win.”
