Christmas, New Years message from commander

16 Dec 2013 | Col. David W. Maxwell Marine Corps Base Quantico

As we approach the end of the year, I would like to personally thank all of you for a job well done. Your efforts throughout the year have ensured that the Marines and Civilians who live, work and pass through the Crossroads of the Marine Corps have been supported with the best we are able to offer. In taking care of the Marines, taking care of the installation and facilities or providing for our safety and security, you have maintained Marine Corps Base Quantico’s reputation as the "Crown Jewel of the Corps." I sincerely hope we are all able to take time and celebrate this season with family, friends and loved ones during these next few weeks. As we celebrate these times together, consider how truly fortunate we are to serve alongside the men and women who continue to make selfless and courageous sacrifices.

Whatever your plans may be for the winter holidays, safety must be at the forefront. Manage your risk - use good judgment in your travel plans and your social activities.

I expect all Commanders to discuss holiday plans with their Marines and Civilian Marines. Your leadership makes a decisive, life or death difference here at home, just as it does on the battlefield. I trust each of you will take care of one another and ensure every Marine remains in the fight.

My best wishes to each of you during this special season and for continued blessings in the New Year.

Sincerely,
DAVID W. MAXWELL
Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps
