Senior Civilian of the Quarter

The Port Royal native received the Senior Civilian of the Quarter Award for the second quarter of 2013 at the Clubs at Quantico on Aug. 13, 2013.

He has served the employees and residents of Marine Corps Base Quantico for 11 years while advancing from an assistant position to a level of leadership.

“Each day is a challenge. You don’t know what is going to come,” said Powers. “You always have to adapt to whatever situation comes up.”

According to his citation, Powers received the award after he “routinely performed his demanding duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner.”

Powers humbly passed the praise he’s received to others.

“I was just doing my job,” said Powers. “My team has done a fantastic job. The greatest thing that’s helped me is teamwork.”



Junior Civilian of the Quarter

Kenny Wright

G-5 Environmental Installations Branch

Wright, a Memphis, Tenn., native, received the Junior Civilian of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2013 at the Clubs at Quantico on Aug. 13, 2013.

Wright started his national service as an active duty Marine. He served 30 years in the service as a rifleman and military policeman.

After retiring, Wright took a job at the brig aboard Quantico, having 24 years of Marine Corps corrections experience. When the brig closed, the Stafford resident took a job with G-5.

“Everyday is a pleasure to come to work,” said Wright. “It’s a joy to be able to do something different every day.”

According to his citation, Wright received the award after he “performed his demanding duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner.”

Wright summarizes his professional goals in this way:

“I just like helping people,” said Wright. “This job allows me to do that.”

Quarterly Civilian Awards
Civilians aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico were awarded for their job performance on Aug. 13, 2013, at the Clubs at Quantico. Two were awarded Civilian of the Quarter while 20 others were awarded for their respective lengths of service, ranging from 10-30 years.
