Marines and sailors now eligible for Enlisted-to-Medical-Degree Preparatory Program

A medical school preparatory program that has been open for several years to enlisted Air Force and Army personnel is now also open to enlisted Marines and sailors. According to a statement by Uniformed Services University of Health Services, the two-year program, known as EMDP2, is open to service members who already have a bachelor’s degree and maintained at least a 3.2 GPA while in school. Candidates will remain on active duty while attending school full-time, though since the program is based at George Mason University-Prince William Campus in Manassas, they will attend classes in civilian attire. They will take pre-medical school classes, such as biology and chemistry, as well as Medical College Admission Test preparatory classes. Students will also receive pre-medical school mentoring and have the opportunity for exposure to clinical settings.

Educational opportunities for civilian employees aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico

There are numerous educational opportunities for service members aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, and contrary to popular belief, many of them are available to civilian employees as well. Active denial tech focus of non-lethal demo

Leaders from several different services and agencies gathered at Range 4 for a demonstration of the Active Denial Technology, a nonlethal weapons system developed by the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate on Oct. 30. The purpose of the demonstration and display ADT was to facilitate senior leader awareness of ADT and appreciation of recent advances in source technology and of its potential utility in current and future operations, according to Kelley Hughes, spokesperson, JNLWD. The demonstration was attended by members of various government agencies.

Artillery Enlisted Assignments Monitor Master Gunnery Sgt. Norman Crowe, stationed aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, has a hobby one would not expect of a hardened warrior: he plays the cello. He took it up two years ago to encourage his then-sixth grade son, Evan, who was learning to play the viola. Crowe told Evan he would also start taking music lessons, so they could at least complain together about practicing.

WWII U.S. Marine Raider sculpture comes to NMMC

A Marine Corps story that was born more than 70 years ago during World War II now reaches its final chapter at Marine Corps Base Quantico. A life-like bronze statue, “Soul of the Forward and Faithful,” honors the U.S. Marine Raiders and will be donated to the National Museum of the Marine Corps on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The sculpture first went on display this past summer in Tacoma, Washington, and most recently at the San Diego Air & Space Museum in California, and will now rest among the many exhibits telling 239 years of Marine Corps history at the NMMC.
