Prayer and play retreat offered for Men
June 30, 2015 — The Catholic community aboard Quantico is offering free admission for any active duty military for a Pray and Play weekend retreat to be held in nearby Prince William Forest Park, cabin compound 4. Summer reading program kicks off at base library, prizes available
June 25, 2015 — The summer reading program kicked off at the Marine Corps Base Quantico base library on Monday with a special story hour for young children and their parents. Quantico Middle/High School students participate in summer STEM camp
June 25, 2015 — Rising sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at Quantico Middle/High School had the unique opportunity to attend a science, technology, engineering, and math camp at the school from June 15-19 free of charge. According to Thomas Carroll, an engineer with Marine Corps Systems Command, approximately 55 students attended, and they were supported by “18 engineers from MCSC, 17 teachers from QMHS, two representatives from the College of William and Mary and student volunteers from QMHS.”

Volunteers keep the 2015 DoD Warrior Games running smoothly
June 25, 2015 — The 2015 DoD Warrior Games are a major logistical undertaking that has required the assistance of hundreds of volunteers from both the base and off-base communities. According to Gerta Bledsoe, the volunteer coordinator for the Games, as of Tuesday there were more than 900 registered volunteers, and, “people are asking all the time if they can still help out. We’ll probably have over 1,000 by the end.” MORE

Riders and non-riders from the D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia gathered to commemorate, learn, and compete with everything related to motorcycles. Marine Corps archery team practices at Quantico archery range
June 22, 2015 — Members of the Marine Corps Archery Team practiced for the Department of Defense Warrior Games on the morning of June 13. “From a wounded warrior perspective, archery lets them relax and concentrate on what they’re doing, not on other things going around them,” said John Fuller, Marine Corps archery coach for the DOD Warrior Games. “It’s an especially good sport for guys with PTSD and TBI.” MORE

Smoke pours from Lejeune Hall roof; fire department, neighboring counties respond
