18 Feb 2016 | Marine Corps Marathon Marine Corps Base Quantico

Runners can now register online for the Marine Corps 17.75K at www.marinemarathon.com. The Marine Corps 17.75K, on April 2 in Prince William County Virginia, is the opportunity to obtain guaranteed entry to the 41st Marine Corps Marathon (MCM), with Access Granted presented to each finisher.

Two thousand runners can participate in the Marine Corps 17.75K, which over the past few years has sold out in less than 10 minutes. The Marine Corps 17.75K, equating to a distance of 11.03 miles, honors the year the Marine Corps was founded in 1775.

Registration is open to ages eight and above but Access Granted will only be presented to 17.75K finishers age 14 and above, as 14 is the youngest age eligible to run the Marathon in October. Each Access Granted card will include a code to register for the 41st MCM that will be held on Sunday, Oct. 30, in Arlington, Virginia and throughout the nation’s capital.

Access Granted registration must be completed by noon Eastern on April 5 to officially register for “The People’s Marathon.”

Marine Corps 17.75K finishers will be thrilled to receive the beautifully designed burnished bronze arrowhead-shaped medal commemorating the founding year of the Marine Corps and the National Park Service’s (NPS) 100th anniversary, celebrated this year #FindYourPark. In addition to finisher medals, 17.75K runners will receive specially designed 17.75K bibs, with timing device, and a canteen-green colored technical shirt.

A National Park, situated between Route 234 and Joplin Road in Manassas, Prince William Forest Park is celebrating its 80th year and history that dates from the Civilian Conservation Corps that built Prince William Forest’s camps for the Office of Strategic Services, which served as the predecessor of the CIA and held WWII strategy sessions in the Park.

The Marine Corps 17.75K is “no day in the park,” as its course encompasses the many twists, turns and inclines of Prince William Forest over both asphalt and gravel roads.

The Marine Corps 17.75K begins at 7 a.m. along Dumfries Road/Route 234 in Prince William County. Free shuttle service will be offered from parking areas (listed below) to the 17.75K start on event morning, April 2.
• Route 234 Commuter Lot — Jefferson Davis Hwy/US Route 1 and Dumfries Road/Route 234
• Quantico Center — at Buildings #3800 & #3850 (located on Fettler Park Drive near the intersection of Dumfries Road/Route 234 & Van Buren Road)
• Forest Park High School located at 15721 Forest Park Drive in Woodbridge, VA

The Marine Corps 17.75K is part of the MCM Event Series, hosted April through November. More information about the Marine Corps 17.75K and the 41st MCM is available at www.marinemarathon.com.

Find Your Park is a public awareness and education campaign celebrating the milestone centennial anniversary of the National Park Service in 2016 and setting the stage for the next 100 years. Find Your Park invites the public to see that a national park is more than just a place — it can be a feeling, a state of mind, or a sense of American pride. Beyond vast landscapes, the campaign highlights historical, urban, and cultural parks, as well as National Park Service programs that protect, preserve and share nature, culture, and history in communities nationwide. Further, Find Your Park encourages people to find their own personal connections within the network of national parks and public lands. #FindYourPark
