After a two-year absence, Marine Corps Base Quantico will revive Vacation Bible School, a weeklong religious camp, from Aug. 12-16.

The Base Chaplain’s Office, on behalf of the Religious Ministry Team, is running the event designed for first to sixth grade children of base personnel.

“Vacation Bible School is a program designed to enrich the lives of children and the community through learning about the Bible and faith during a week filled with fun and interactive activities,” said Navy Lt. Loren Crone, chaplain, Marine Corps Embassy Security Group and VBS coordinator. “We are bringing this event back to offer a rewarding experience to the children stationed aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico.”

From 9 a.m. to noon each day, participants can interact while visiting a variety of stations that include, Bible stories, music, crafts, games and presentations from several base units. Some of those units include: the Quantico Marine Corps Band, the Naval Health Clinic Quantico, the Provost Marshal’s Office with working dogs, the Quantico Fire Department, the Child Development Center, the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, Families Overcoming Under Stress and a certified substance abuse counselor.

According to Crone, more than 25 volunteers and organizations have united to make this event possible.

“Our theme is community,” said Deanna Poellnitz, Marine spouse and VBS volunteer. “I can remember attending VBS as a child and it melts my heart to be able to be a leader now.”

Taking place in the Memorial Chapel, Chapel Annex and chapel field, the event offers more than just fun and games, according to Crone.

“Kids will have a fun filled week, with a unique inside look at what we do in the military, while developing friendships and community bonds that will sustain them throughout their tour aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico,” said Crone. “Also, the event will draw the community together to support one another through mutual service and selflessness.”
