Naval Health Clinic Quantico celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with talks, dancing, decorations, taquitos and enchiladas at its mainside clinic Sept. 19.

Clinic employees of various Hispanic backgrounds talked about their countries of origin, and Seaman Angelica Portillo, dental technician, spoke about accomplished Hispanic Americans in history, from Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to rock star Carlos Santana.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Timothy Velasco, lab technician, spoke about the Mexican Easter tradition of filling eggs with confetti and breaking them over one another’s heads for good luck, and Petty Officer 2nd Class Bryan Pascascio, lead petty officer for the Directorate for Public Health Services, talked about the ecotourism, textiles and tamales that dominate Guatemala’s economy.

Following lunch, employees had a chance to burn some calories dancing the salsa and meringue.

The celebration was put on by the clinic’s Directorate for Health Services. Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
