Sergeant Major Jacqueline Y. Townsel enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1999 and completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon completion of Marine Combat Training, she was transferred to Camp Johnson, North Carolina where she attended the Basic Maintenance Management Military Occupational School (MOS) and was assigned the MOS of 0411.
Upon completion of MOS training, she received orders to Camp Pendleton, California and was assigned to the Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing as a Maintenance Management Clerk.
In October 2002, Lance Corporal Townsel reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 172 in Okinawa, Japan as a Maintenance Management Clerk for the Headquarters Element. In March 2003, she was transferred to Marine Aircraft Group 36 as the Maintenance Management Non-Commissioned Officer for Group 36. She was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant in May 2003.
In January 2004, she requested and received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon completion of Drill Instructor School, she was assigned to 4th Recruit Training Battalion. She served as a Drill Instructor with Papa Company and was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant in January 2006. She continued to serve as a Senior Drill Instructor and Series Gunnery Sergeant.
In April 2007, she was assigned to Marine Tactical Air Command Squadron-38 as the Maintenance Management Chief and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom National Resolution.
In April 2009, she received orders as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor for The George Washington University NROTC Unit. Prior to her arrival to The George Washington University NROTC Unit, she was sent to Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Quantico, Virginia where she served as a Sergeant Instructor for Delta Company. In August 2009, she reported for duty at The George Washington University NROTC Unit. In June 2010, she returned to OCS as a Platoon Sergeant for Echo Company.
In May 2012, she was assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force, G-7 as the Logistics Chief where she was selected to the rank of First Sergeant. In April 2014, First Sergeant Townsel received orders to the School of Infantry (West), Marine Combat Training Battalion, where she was assigned as the First Sergeant for Company I. In September 2015, she was transferred to Headquarters and Support Battalion as the Headquarters and Support Company First Sergeant. In June 2016, she transferred to Advanced Infantry Training Battalion as the First Sergeant for Light Armored Reconnaissance Training Company. In May 2017, she received orders to 1st Maintenance Battalion where she was assigned as the First Sergeant for Engineer Maintenance Company.
In September 2018, she was assigned to Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, where she served as the Sergeant Major of Fourth Recruit Training Battalion. In April 2020, she was assigned to Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 224, Marine Air Group 31, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing as the Squadron Sergeant Major.
In July 2021 she reported for duty as the Sergeant Major for Security Battalion, Marine Corps Base Quantico.
Sergeant Major Townsel holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Wayland Baptist University.
Sergeant Major Townsel's personal awards and include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (one gold star).
