Children and adults watch “How to Train Your Dragon 2” from the pool during the Flick and Float event at the 50m pool July 9.

For the third year in a row, the Quantico 50m pool hosted a movie night called “Flick and Float.” On July 9, the pool stayed open late, and families were invited to bring rafts, tubes, noodles and other pool toys and watch a movie from the water or the pool deck.

The movie chosen by the pool staff was “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” and it played on a large, inflatable screen once the sun went down. All attendees received a free cup of popcorn with their entry ticket, which was only $1, and there were food trucks on-site.

“We’re actually doing two events for the first time this summer,” said pool manager Lindsay Leach. The second event is scheduled for August 7 at 7 p.m., and “Rio 2” is the designated movie.

Maj. John Dalby and his wife and two young daughters all attended the event and had a great time. “Our kids can’t get enough pool time during the summer, so we had a blast getting to swim late into the evening,” said Dalby.
