Hunting Season for 2015

By Ida Irby | Marine Corps Base Quantico | October 8, 2015

Marine Corps Base Quantico -- The wait is over and hunting season is finally here, but hunters don’t be too impulsive. There are strict seasonal dates for different game and bag limits for hunting the woodlands aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico. Hunters should visit the game check station on the west side of the base for up-to-date rule changes and which areas of the base are open to hunters.

A $5 hunting trip license is good for three days; otherwise hunters can purchase an annual hunting license for $20. There is no charge for hunters under the age of 18-years-old, disabled Virginia residents, and exempt Native Americans. Licenses are available at the game check station Monday to Saturday 5:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hunter or archery orientation safety classes are available through the game check station. There hunters will learn details about different game on base, and regulations for hunting specific species.

Black Bear hunting is allowed for game over 100 pounds, but the limit is one each season. There is no seasonal bag limit for fox, crow, or opossum. Eager deer hunters should check with the game check station for Deer Management Assistance Program tags. These tags are available for hunting on Mainside and will not count against seasonal bag limits.

For specific times and dates please visit Virginia's Department of Game and Inland Fisheries website.

Hunting regulations, hunting bulletin, and maps for hunting are available online www.quantico.marines.mil, under the Office & Staff and GFInstallation & Environment tabs. For additional information on Virginia hunting regulations, visit www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting.

Inclement weather and elevated base force protection levels may reduce or cancel scheduled hunting days. Hunters can also call the game check station at 703-784-5523 for weather related closures, unscheduled closures, or adjustments to bag limits.
