Excitement filled the racquetball court as players spiked, smacked and punted the wallyball back and forth.

Barber Physical Activity Center hosted a wacky, wallyball tournament in conjunction with their annual men’s health fair, June 12.

Wallyball, similar to indoor volleyball is played in a racquetball or squash court, but has its own rules. Usually played four-on-four, players must hit the ball back and forth across the net and may use the wall.

Three teams showed up to compete against one another at the event.

Mateo Gordon, flight clearance chief at Marine Corps Air Facility, who played with members of his unit on team “Wallz of Steel,” said the sport helps build comradery.

“Units play wallyball a lot for PT,” said Lisa Vice, group fitness coordinator at BPAC, who helped organize the event. “The game involves a lot of strategy.”

The health fair also included information about tobacco use, physical fitness, alcohol awareness, nutrition, injury prevention, running, sexual health and a spinal screening.
