The Quantico Warriors hosted the Randolph- Macon Academy Yellowjackets from Front Royal, Va., at Butler Stadium on Sept. 23, 2013, for the sixth game of the season.

The 1-3 Warrior’s recent string of losses didn’t stop boosters from showing their support for the team, participating from the bleachers by shouting motivation with the Quantico Middle/High School band and cheerleaders.

“It’s not about the win/loss record,” said Daniel Emunson, father of Codie, 10th grade Warrior.  “It’s about the dynamics that they place on the field and I think Quantico has a good program. The boys know they’re performing their best and that’s all we should ask of them.”

Their best is what the Warriors served their guests as they started the last September game of the season. Quantico started strong, using a vicious running game to consistently gain yards as they drove their offense toward the end zone. The Warriors’ defense made an early impression too, blocking the first field goal attempt of the game.

Despite Quantico’s best efforts, the final score of 40-7 left the Warriors less than victorious.

“We have got to learn from mistakes,” said Alec, senior Warrior quarterback/captain. “The other team is capitalizing on our mistakes.”

Mike Green, Warriors head coach agreed.

“Frankly we need to do better,” said Green to his team during a post-game recap. “One of the things I want to see us improve on is holding onto the football. When the whistle hasn’t blown, the play is not over.”

Negative isn’t the only observation Green made though.

“We had some positive things to point to in the second half,” said Green. “We have to build on the positive.”

Some parents see the positive traits, too.

The team aspect is wonderful, especially for as small as it is,” said Roxie Emunson, Codie’s mother. “They really help each other on and off the field. We’ve definitely had a positive experience. All of the boys are outstanding gentlemen and the coaches seem really concerned at all times.”

The Warrior’s next home game is the homecoming football game and will be on Oct. 11, 2013, at 6 p.m., at Butler Stadium against Roanoke Catholic School.
