Child Abuse Prevention Month Speaker Series

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and to honor it the MCB Quantico Family Advocacy Program (FAP) will be holding a speaker series. The event will take place on April 25 at MCBQ's Little Hall Theater. FAP is inviting parents, teachers, child care providers, coaches, clinical/non-clinical personnel and anyone interested in joining the event.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m.  Following the introduction and opening remarks, Ronnie Bradley, FAP manager, and Nina Manganaris, Marine Corps Community Services behavioral health director, will be provide a presentation on "Being a trauma informed community: how to recognize risk factors and build resiliency in those that have experienced childhood trauma."

The morning presenter will be Dr. Ashley Landers, from the Department of Human Development and Family Science, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She will be presenting "The importance of parenting with warmth and connection". She has extensive experience providing individual, group, and family therapy to children, adolescents, and adults. Her specialized training areas include structural family therapy, trauma focused cognitive behavior therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. Landers' clinical and research interests converge around issues of complex trauma and families in child welfare.

The afternoon presenter will be Dr. Karen Paullet from the Center for Cyber Research and Training, Robert Morris University. She will share research information on the topics of cyberbullying and internet safety for children. She has spoken at over 200 engagements nationally and internationally on the dangers of social network sites, mobile security threats, privacy of information, information sharing and the CSI effect.

A certificate with contact hours will be given to morning attendees and continuing education credits will be issued for professionals attending the afternoon session.

Attendees will have lunch on their own. Child care is not available.
